Genda Shigyō – Est. 771

Genda Shigyō is one of Japan’s oldest companies, with origins dating to AD 771. Based in Kyoto, the company became renowned for producing mizuhiki—decorative cords crafted from twisted paper that are used in traditional Japanese gift-giving and ceremonial occasions.

For centuries, Genda Shigyō supplied finely crafted paper products to the Imperial Court and helped preserve an important aspect of Japanese cultural heritage. Its enduring legacy reflects the importance of craftsmanship, symbolism, and tradition in Japanese society.
